Spectroscopic Calibration of uBVRI Photometric Selection

چکیده
We present a survey for z ∼ 3 Lyman break galaxies (LBGs) associated with damped Lyman α systems (DLAs) with the primary purpose of determining the DLA-LBG cross-correlation. This paper describes the acquisition and analysis of imaging and spectroscopic data of 9 quasar fields having 11 known z ∼ 3 DLAs covering an area of 465 arcmin. Using deep uBVRI images, 796 LBG candidates to an apparent RAB magnitude of 25.5 were photometrically selected from 17,343 sources detected in the field. Spectroscopic observations of 529 LBG candidates Visiting Astronomer, W. M. Keck Telescope. WFPC2 Photometric Calibration
The updated absolute photometric calibration for WFPC2 yields typical uncertainties for bright sources below 2% for the photometric filter set and of about 3% for other filters between 400 and 800 nm. We present a quantitative characterization of some well-known WFPC2 non-linearities, the CTE error and the long vs. short anomaly, which allows a better estimate of their possible impact under a v...
متن کاملSpectroscopic failures in photometric redshift calibration: cosmological biases and survey requirements
We use N-body-spectrophotometric simulations to investigate the impact of incompleteness and incorrect redshifts in spectroscopic surveys on photometric redshift training and calibration and the resulting effects on cosmological parameter estimation from weak lensing shear–shear correlations. The photometry of the simulations is modelled after the upcoming Dark Energy Survey and the spectroscop...
متن کاملPhotometric properties of theoretical spectral libraries for GAIA photometry
Photometric properties of various spectral libraries of synthetic stellar spectra derived from the ATLAS 9 (Castelli et al. 1997), the PHOENIX NextGen (Hauschildt et al. 1998, 1999), the NMARCS (Bessell et al. 1998), and the BaSeL (Lejeune et al. 1998, Westera et al. 2002) models are discussed in view of their application to the definition of the GAIA photometric system. Comparisons with empiri...
متن کاملUBVRI photometric sequences for symbiotic stars
Deep, wide-range and accurate UBVRI photometric sequences have been established around more than 80 symbiotic stars, to assist current photometry as well as measurement of old photographic plates. Sequences for 40 symbiotic stars have already been published; the observations for the others have already been secured.
متن کاملTowards More Precise Photometric Redshifts: Calibration Via CCD Photometry
We present the initial results from a deep, multi-band photometric survey of selected high Galactic latitude redshift fields. Previous work using the photographic data of Koo and Kron demonstrated that the distribution of galaxies in the multi-dimensional flux space U,B,R,& I is nearly planar. The position of a galaxy within this plane is determined by its redshift, luminosity and spectral type...
